Tricia Rose founded Rough Linen in 2009.
Tricia learned her love of textiles from her early years in Scotland, with grandparents and aunts who all knitted and sewed. Revisiting her family’s stone cottage many years later, she discovered one, very old, hand-loomed linen pillowslip, made by her grandmother’s grandmother from her own flax. The subtle texture and colour, its elemental nature, resonated with Tricia, and it was right there in her hands. She formed a deep and immediate connection.
Years later, Tricia discovered "Orkney," the unique linen fabric with the same evocative qualities, homespun texture, and weight as that heirloom pillowslip, and all her feeling for the comfort and traditions and values linen stands for flooded back. There was no hesitation at all: Rough Linen was born.
